How can remembrance bring healing?
The reportage The Guardian of Memory – Daliah Hindler accompanies Daliah Hindler, a woman who works tirelessly to ensure that the victims of the Holocaust in Vienna are not forgotten.
Daliah Hindler continues the legacy of her mother, the artist and activist Elisabeth Ben-David-Hindler. After her request for an official memorial plaque for her murdered family members was rejected, she established the ‘Stones of Remembrance’ initiative, which has grown into a vibrant network of relatives, students, and volunteers. Together, they place symbolic gravestones for those who have no grave, sending a message against forgetting and in favour of humanity.
We follow Daliah as she opens new memorial sites, works with volunteers and performs with her Avanim ensemble. The result is a multi-layered portrait of a woman in the spirit of dignity, healing, and remembrance.
“These stones tell stories – not only of loss, but also of hope.”
– Daliah Hindler
