The angry Buddha

Cinema Documentary, 98 mins, 2016
Director: Stefan Ludwig

János Orsós comes from a Romani background and is a teacher. He is also a practicing Buddhist who has founded a Buddhist school in a Hungarian village. His aim is to help teenagers from poor Romani ghettos gain university places. He takes his inspiration from the Untouchables in India – the country of origin of both the Romani people and Buddhism. His long, committed struggle has made János angry – the angry Buddha. The film team accompanies him and his efforts for three years, while also presenting honest, charming portraits of Romani youth who navigate a world of poverty and prejudice with humour and a determination to succeed.
